Hey it’s time for another northern unsigned band compilation!. This time it’s the turn of Leeds night “On The Bone”. Whilst the usual suspects are on here (This Et Al, The Somatics, Scaramanga Six, Champion Kickboxer etc – all good of course), it’s the other stuff that On The Bone have championed that really raises the interest . The excellent Downdime (see the 9/10 MM single review last summer), That Fucking Tank (MM 8/10 album) and The Lodger (MM single of the week) , Wild Beasts are all welcome to our ears. Samsa’s “The Fight” is a nice, measured jangle with some salient ideas, whilst Mother Vupline provide some exciting head exploding pace to their calculated rock outs. On The Bone however have painstakingly made sure the bulk of the material on here is unreleased and it’s something that makes this collection stand out. Having tracked the Leeds scene since 1999 and reviewed a lot of our nearest peers music, it’s more than easy to hold this up as another example of Yorkshires new rock heritage – long may it reign.
