I am increasingly been drawn to the noisier end of the indie spectrum. This could possibly be a reaction against a lot of the twee sounds doing the rounds at the moment. There, is, of course room enough for both styles in my indiepop world - but I am finding new bands like Navvy and King Alexander are making some of the best sounds around at the moment and they're generally more abrasive and less cutesy. It's safe to say that That Fucking Tank are a band that fall into into this category of bands. If anything, they're straddling the divide between traditional rock, post rock and the noise bands released on the 1980s Blast First label (think early Sonic Youth, AC Temple - to name two). This single is released on the leeds based On The Bone label.

'The Awesome Magnet' is a raw slab of DIY guitar based noised. It's not afraid of having a tune. But it does like to scare the birds on the rooftops outside my window. Lead song 'The Awesome Magnet' was recorded in a couple of hour upstairs in a small Leeds boozer - The Packhorse Inn. It sounds great. Raw and energetic. It features the vocals of Giles Bailey (once involved with Dananananaykroyd). The 'B' Side is a more sludgy sounding song entitled 'Fascist because Beautiful'. Both songs are over 5 minutes in length. The 7" single will be packaged with a free DVD of the duo's most recent European tour - shot and edited by the band themselves. This is the true spirit of independent music. There should be more bands like this. I like.
