The latest single from Leeds noise-rock duo That Fucking Tank sees the band taking a slightly different direction from their instrumental past with the addition of guest vocalist Giles Bailey (previously of Danananaykroyd). While Bailey’s vocals are always likely to divide opinion, there’s no denying the fact that they do add a new dimension to the band’s sound, complementing it perfectly on The Awesome Magnet while the band create an impressive racket as always.

Musically the complex time signatures, heavy guitars, pounding drums and math-rock tendencies are still present (notably on the b-side) but it’s the addition of the vocals that really augments the quality of the song and ensures that, whether you love or hate the style of the vocal delivery, the song itself is definitely memorable.

“Fascist Because Beautiful” proves to be a little more forgettable, favouring experimentation and improvisation, ensuring that the track is one which takes several listens before you can really appreciate it. Nevertheless this is still an impressive release which hints at future potential with the addition of vocals while still retaining the band’s classic sound which has proven popular with their many fans
