high voltage
Whilst it's been little over eighteen months since This Et Al unleashed their fiery debut 'Baby Machine' - eleven tracks of obdurately brutal, dynamic anthems for disenchanted glass-half-empty types to which we're still recovering - the Leeds quartet return to the fray with a new set.
It seems the ensuing months has found the group stretch sonically, with three of the four new tracks wrapped less in the tense, down-tuned riffs heard previously and more focused toward post-rock atmospherics and the kind of arresting minor-key melodies once the forte of one Mr Robert Smith.
But those fearing the four-piece may have slipped over to the lighter side need only to hear the two-minute plus blast of the EP's title track, with frontman Wu's stirring "we're throwing solace to the wind" call to feel a kind of cheerless ease, as we wait for their upcoming long player follow up.
