This debut double A-side from Leeds four-piece Mother Vulpine sees the band create an impressive racket whilst still retaining an infectious melody throughout. Containing traces of the likes of This Et Al and Queens Of The Stone Age, the two tracks on offer here show much potential and with tracks as good as “We’ll Be Detectives” waiting in the wings the future could be very bright indeed for Mother Vulpine.
“Keep Your Wits Sharp…” is driven forward by an incessant and extremely catchy rhythm, while the fast-paced vocals and guitar riffs combine to great effect. The middle instrumental section of the song is particularly strong, as it twists and turns before building to a conclusion and allowing the vocals to kick back in. Meanwhile, “For A Friend…” is similar in style to the A-side albeit a little shorter, a little sharper and slightly louder.
The fact that Mother Vulpine have managed to create two tracks of this quality for what is their debut single is testament to their genuine talent and ability for creating songs of this ilk, and I for one look forward to hearing more from them in the near future
