Leeds-spawned math-pop quartet Wintermute are currently making waves on the UK gig circuit, with music that's cut from the same cloth as Foals and the now-defunct post-hardcore troupe Meet Me In St. Louis. Its a winning formula - complex, sprawling epics, with enough pop flourishes to smooth down its jagged edges. Stop, start, shout - it's the blue print for all six tracks on their debut EP 'Fun With Wizard Stencils'. Wintermute are a promising band, but not wholly original - Rock Sound can name at least a dozen other British acts doing similar things at the moment. As soon as they find their niche, they'll be brilliant. Here's hoping they do.
